BALTIMORE COUNTY GOLF CLOSES GUNPOWDER FALLS
As we end 2008, we are bidding farewell to our Gunpowder Falls golf course in Kingsville to make room for a new recreational park. As of January 1, 2009, the 112-acre property will transfer to the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks. The county plans to add a 26-acre parcel adjacent to Gunpowder to the property and transform the entire property into a much needed multi-purpose recreational park in northern Baltimore County.

While it is sad to be closing the facility as a golf course, it is our intent to create similar golfing experiences at Rocky Point and Longview with the addition of new, executive-length, tees. Furthermore, the new training center at Longview will assist players of all abilities.

Here are answers to the three most often asked questions:

Q: What will happen to the staff, equipment and merchandise that previously was located at Gunpowder Falls?
The staff is being transferred to other courses. Frank Blind, the Head Golf Professional at Gunpowder Falls, will run the new training center at Longview; Frank’s assistant, Mark Mendoza, will become an Assistant Pro at Greystone; and Lenny Clatterbuck, one of the maintenance supervisors, will go to Longview. Remaining equipment and merchandise are being transferred as appropriate among our five Baltimore County Golf courses.

Q: Where can golfers go who are looking to learn the game or improve their skills?
The Board of Directors has just approved an extensive renovation plan for the Longview Golf Course. We will add a new driving range and completely renovate the existing back nine. Once completed, Longview will be one of the best learning facilities in the region.

Q: What are the plans for the new multi-purpose recreational facility?

As indicated in several newspaper articles, it is the County’s intention to develop a regional park on the site. For more information we suggest that you contact Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks for more information by calling 410-887-3871.

We will continue to update you as improvements and changes are made throughout our five courses. In the meantime, we invite you to golf on our other five Baltimore County Golf courses.
